A truly useful, usable and easy-to-use website requires that designers and developers do more than ensure that the programming code runs reliably on the computer. They must deal effectively and efficiently with a wide variety of usability issues as they proceed through the design and development process. The tools listed in this section have proved to be a useful way to help ensure optimal usability, and a great user experience.
Focusing on the tools that are available to be used at each step along the way will help you consider those activities that are most important.
There are over 200 software tools (currently about 240) that can be used to help improve the user interface of websites and web applications. We have divided all of the available tools into five major sections: Testing and Evaluation, Prototyping and Mockups, Card Sorting and Navigation, Display (Screen) Design, and Content Design.
